Did you know that last year Richmond was one of the top 10 cities in BC for energy reduction during this HOUR last year.

This year it takes place from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on March 31(that is this Saturday). What are you supposed to do? Turn your lights off, tv off, computer off etc and read a book or play some non-electricity-powered games

Welcome to the TomatoSphere!

After spring break we are going to be planting (and growing) some tomatoes. Some of the seeds have been to space (Experimental Group), while others have not (Control group). We will be testing the germination (successfully sprouted) rate between the 2 groups. The fun part is that we won't know which group is which until after we have submitted our results. I have done this the past 2 years with my classes and have had great tomatoes (2 years ago I had over 100 of them!) to eat when we took them home and planted them in our gardens.

These seeds were taken into space by Canadian astronauts.

This fits in with our extreme environments unit from term 2 but obviously we couldn't plant them right before spring break or they would die while we were on holiday.

HW for Thursday

French: Your House (La Maison) will be due after 1 more class period to work on it (Friday). If you need to work on it at home to get further along, please do so.

Science: Extreme environment board games will NOT be due before the break. Please DO BRING your materials to class on Friday though to work on your game.

Socials: Resubmit theme books on Friday if anything needed to be redone.

Math 7: Extra practice 6 and chapter 8.6

Just went on our first... GeoCaching "expedition"

It was fun (and free). Definitely something you could try out over spring break. What's a geocache you ask? It's kind of like a scavenger hunt to find a hidden cache (a box/canister etc) that has been hidden by someone else. You get to use GPS to help you get to the approximate location and then you have to find the hidden item with the help of a clue.

We just downloaded a free app for our iPhone and it listed 3 geocaches near to our location. We got on our bikes and road to Terra Nova. We could not find the first one we searched for but that made it that much more exciting when my son Nolan found the second one. We signed in to the log book that was in the cache box and then went off to find the third one on our list. Mrs. Rollins quickly found this one which was a film canister sneakily hidden in a tricky location! Good times and we got lots of exercise riding up and down the dike as well. There are geocaches in over 100 countries and there's even one on the ISS (International Space Station). We can't wait to do it again.
