Transit of Venus

Sorry we missed this happening live (it was yesterday after school) but it is still something interesting to look at. Venus, one of the 2 planets between Earth and the Sun, passed in front of the Sun. This won't happen again for another 100 years.

Why is this interesting? Well, for one thing, scientists can use this technique to a) find planets in far away galaxies. They do this by watching stars/suns and seeing if they go darker- if they do, then a planet may have crossed in front of it. b) they can analyze the atmosphere around these planets as they pass in front of their sun to see if it might be conducive to hosting life like it's on Earth.
